Payless CEO: “Kanye West Reached Out”

Never one to be called predictable, Kanye West revealed in an interview with Ellen Degeneres this week that he wants to work with – no, not Adidas, not even Vans – but Payless.

During the program, West, speaking of his design process, said that he designs with the likes of President Obama and Leonardo DiCaprio in mind. He then segued, somewhat randomly, into a story about Payless.

“I called the head of Payless. I’m like, I want to work with you. I want to take all this information that I’ve learned from sitting at all these fashion shows and knocking on all these doors and buying all these expensive clothes. And I want to take away bullying.”

While it remains unclear how Kanye West for Payless shoes might end bullying, the rapper-turned-designer was serious about his call with Payless. In an email sent to Racked, the footwear brand confirmed a call took place.

“We can confirm that Kanye reached out and had a phone conversation with Payless CEO, Paul Jones,” a Payless representative wrote via email.

The representative declined to comment any further on the chat, so we are only left to wonder if Kanye West will soon be offering more wallet-friendly versions of his wildly hyped Yeezy Boosts.
