Sneaker Releases to Watch in 2015

Sneakers are making noise. Last month the NPD Group revealed the athletic footwear category recorded $93 million in sales during the five weeks ending Dec. 6, 2014, and one sneaker release in particular–the Jordan VI Retro Mid–contributed a staggering $25 million.

With sneaker culture deepening its footprint worldwide, and the acceptance of athletic footwear seeping into mainstream fashion at frantic pace, 2015 is shaping up to be a strong year for sneakerheads, new and old.

While Jordan and Nike have strangleholds on release anticipation, Vamp resident sneakerhead Kahron Spearman offers a tentative look at what the next year has in store for the sneaker community. The brands are diverse and the styles are unique, ensuring that each release will be met with more anticipation that ever.

New Balance M997CCF
The New Balance M997CCF stands out in a sea of collaborations. Scheduled for a Jan. 15 release, this updated 997 model is a non-collaborative superstar among the releases slated for this year.

Solebox x Diadora N9000 “Ferro”
The collaborated N9000 “Ferro” might be the shoe that speeds up Diadora’s upward trajectory. Set for a Jan. 24 release, the sneaker has been reworked by Berlin-based sneaker boutique, Solebox. The model features tonal gradients of gray with a pastel blue upper——and ideal look for sneakerheads looking to diversify.

Air Jordan Remastered Series
After years of listening to sneakerheads gripe about design inconsistencies and poor quality, Jordan Brands (JB) has decided to take the production of its retro line to the next level. JB plans to manufacturer its Remastered series with premium materials and truer reproductions of the originals. Two Air Jordan X models, “Bulls over Broadway” and “Chicago,” are slated for release on Feb. 14 and March 28, respectively. Another highly anticipated release: the Air Jordan VII “Hare,” on May 16. However, no word on whether its production is in line with the Remastered editions.

Alife x Puma Blaze of Glory
The infinitely customizable Blaze of Glory gets another unique colorway, telling a story from within Alife’s confines. The model features a breathable mesh with a rounded leather toe.

Adidas x Kanye West
This has to be understood: all things Kanye are going to be highly anticipated and hyped to no end. The resell of the shoes will likely be astronomical.
