In the wake of Cyclone Pam’s devastation to Vanuatu, Soles4Souls, a global social enterprise that collects shoes and distributes them to people in need, has teamed up with several businesses aiding relief efforts. Working with Carnival Australia, Virgin Australia and Virgin Atlantic Cargo, Souls4Souls can distribute clothing and footwear to people on the island.
Cyclone Pam hit in March 2015 and was regarded one of the worst natural disasters in the island’s history. An estimated 3,300 people were displaced, and many were left without proper footwear and clothing, leaving them vulnerable to injury or disease.
With this partnership, Soles4Souls will be able to supply 10,000 pieces of clothing and 20,580 pairs of flip-flops. Virgin Australia and Carnival Australia have lent ships and planes to transport the items to Vanuatu.
“Sometimes, the most challenging part of our job isn’t getting items donated, but distributing those items to people in hard to reach places who need them,” said Soles4Souls CEO Buddy Teaster. “It’s through partnerships with generous, innovative companies like Carnival Australia and Virgin Australia that we’re able to see our mission through to the end.”
