Sperry to Debut New Sailing Performance Shoe

When it’s deliver-or-die, supply chains become the lifeblood of a company. To that end, the fashion industry has embraced technology to navigate today’s hyper-complicated supply chain, with myriad solutions shaping the first, middle and last mile. Call it Sourcing 2.0.

Sperry, a division of Wolverine Worldwide, announced Monday their latest venture into performance footwear.

The brand delves deeper into competitive sailing shoes with the debut of the Sperry 7 Seas Pro, a shoe designed with “industry-best” breathability and quick dry features. The shoe, designed with insight from Oracle Team USA SoftBank Team Japan athletes, secures and cradles the foot while superior traction provides grip that can withstand the sport’s unpredictable elements.

“The Sperry 7 Seas Pro shoe is built for optimal speed, agility and grip to meet the unique demands of an America’s Cup athlete,” said Adam Meek, Sperry global VP of product. “We took a selection of our performance-based footwear to Bermuda so that the athletes could wear them in training and give us real-time feedback on what worked well and what could be enhanced. Then, we built the silhouette from scratch and constantly wear tested it with the teams. It was this collaboration that allowed us to create the ultimate performance shoe.”

Sperry will debut the Sperry 7 Seas Pro at the first-ever Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series in Fukuoka, Japan later this week. The event serves as the first stage of the 35th America’s Cup. The shoe rolls out into retail in Spring ’17.

Sperry is the official sponsor of the 35th America’s Cup, and the exclusive footwear supplier of Oracle Team USA and the official supplier of SoftBank Team Japan.
