Whether it’s an Academy Award or a star-shaped sticker on a book report, everyone wants to be gifted with gold. Feet, especially. For Spring ’16 brands at GDS unveiled a treasure trove of gilded footwear that stretched beyond the standard spangled heel to include styles for casual wear, men and kids.
Stylists and editors dubbed metallic gold a “new neutral” many seasons ago, but this time the metal is taking on a molten, liquid-like appearance. It’s a flashy look, but a broad range of casual silhouettes—sneakers, loafers, ballet flats and wedges—is making it easier than ever to walk on gold. Heavy outsoles, Velcro straps and sculptural shaped uppers and heels add a tech vibe.
In contrast, designers are taking a more subdued approach to metallic gold dress shoes with matte finishes, earthy textures and low-key baubles.
