The Look: Sole Searching

What are the pains and actions brands across the industry are taking to try and become consumer-led? Join our webinar "Consumer-Led Retail: Optimizing Assortments at Speed" Sept 28th, featuring experts from MakerSights and DTC brand Taylor Stitch.

For men who want to update their shoes for Spring ’16, the soles are a good place to start. Whether it’s adding a band of spring material or just using a light-colored rubber, men’s footwear brands are working from the ground up to add a pop of color this spring.

Light-colored soles bring a dash of spring fashion to those who aren’t ready for a pastel oxford. At J75, the company is debuting lighter soles with leather welts on traditional dress shoes. The shoes are available in a traditional black, navy and brown palette with perforated details, but are updated with a contrasting pale camel sole.

Look for clear outsoles to add a modern twist to classics. Testosterone Shoes are revamping their traditional offerings with clear rubber synthetic outsoles. At Robert Wayne, clear outsoles bottom boat shoes in vulcanized leathers with huarache styles and on perforated loafers. Finally, at CAT, clear soles are added to its core Colorado boot, lightening the look of the workwear-inspired boot.

Perhaps the most obvious touch of spring is the addition of jute midsoles, mirroring the espadrille trend in women’s shoes. At Joy and Mario, jute midsoles can be spotted on slip-on and oxford styles, paired with contrasting colors on the welt or outsole.
