Timberland Crafting Athletic Shoes with Help of Sneakerheads

Timberland is now the latest brand to get in on the crowdsourcing and crowdfunding movement.

The boot brand announced the launch of “Craftletic”, a collaboration with Betabrand that takes fan designs and turns them into reality.

Sneaker fans were invited by Timberland to join in throughout the entire design process – from sketch to fabrication to crowdfundable prototype – narrowing around 30 initial designs down to three.

Now, fans are being asked to fund their favorites from the three finalists through Betabrand’s website. The designs that make it to 100% funding will be produced and sold by Timberland.

“Partnering with Betabrand gives Timberland the opportunity to engage consumers in a dialogue in a truly innovative way and test new design concepts in real-time, from their infancy through to creation,” said Jay Steere, Senior Director of Timberland Innovation Lead.

“Timberland is the largest lifestyle brand we’ve ever collaborated with,“ said Betabrand CEO Chris Lindland. “We’re excited about the impact our crowdsourced design process can have on their footwear.
