Vans is giving new meaning to the term “mobile gaming.”
After images of the collection leaked on the web last month, the footwear brand formally announced Wednesday that it would be partnering with video game manufacturer Nintendo for a new range of retro-inspired footwear and apparel.
Taking inspiration from the classic 8-bit era of video games in the 1980’s, the new collaborative line features exclusive graphic prints of characters and artwork from iconic Nintendo franchises, including Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda.
The Vans x Nintendo footwear assortment kicks off with four variations of Vans’ Authentic silhouette. Gamers can travel to the Mushroom Kingdom for the first colorway, the Super Mario Bros Tie-Dye, which showcases an all-over character print of Mario alongside several “power-ups” and the villainous Goomba over an 8-bit tie-dye pattern.
Other prints feature Princess Peach awaiting rescue from her brave hero, while the Duck Hunt style comes to life atop a digi-camo backdrop featuring the hunting dog and flying duck. Vans’ signature lace-free silhouette, the Classic Slip-On, appears in the lineup as well, with graphics and quotes from The Legend of Zelda, while a Sidestriped trio of the Sk8-Hi, Old Skool and Sk8-Hi Slim for women pay homage to the NES with prints and colors inspired by the console.
To present a throwback-styled, head-to-toe look, the Vans x Nintendo collaboration extends into apparel and accessory items for men and women. Co-branded tees, backpacks, bags, socks and hats are offered in prints that tie back to the Classic footwear. Vans has also thought of the newest generation of gamers, and has designed three exclusive kids patterns across the Sk8-Hi Zip, Classic Slip-on and Authentic styles.
The Vans x Nintendo collection launches worldwide June 3 through Vans retail locations and online.
