If you thought that sneaker-luxe had reached a breaking point, think again.
Virgin America, the airline company of billionaire Richard Branson, has entered the footwear game with the launch of their ‘First Class’ sneaker.
The First Class includes features that neither luxury Italian shoemakers nor Mr. West can match with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, an LCD display, phone charging port, three-hour battery life and even a seat belt buckle. And with all these premium features comes a premium price tag: $10,000.
Developed by brand agency Eleven Inc. for Virgin, the First Class sneaker is being auctioned to benefit Soles4Souls, and there is currently only one pair in existence. With a white Italian leather upper, and “mood lighting” details, the sneaker is unlike anything else on the market. Currently posted on eBay, the winner of the auction will receive the shoe in a plexiglass displace case with LED lighting.
“This might be your last chance to get your hands on a piece of historic aviation memorabilia. Whether you’re a sneakerhead or an airline enthusiast, this is a can’t-miss collectible. And it’s sure to be a conversation starter for years to come,” reads Virgin America’s eBay listing. One thing is certain, First Class doesn’t come cheap.
