Adidas Unveils Activewear Made From Recycled Ocean Plastic

First it was sneakers, and now Adidas is making activewear from recycled ocean plastic.

In another partnership with Parley for the Oceans, a global group working to reduce ocean pollution, and Wanderlust, a wellness event company, Adidas debuted its Adidas x Wanderlust Collection.

The activewear and footwear collection, which culls inspiration from vintage surf style, is created with Parley for the Oceans’ Parley Ocean Plastic, upcycled ocean plastic that is turned into high performance recycled polyester thread for apparel and footwear products. With the collection, Adidas aims to inspire consumers to reduce their carbon footprint and promote wellness beyond their wardrobes.

“Wanderlust is here to inspire a healthy lifestyle through mindful adventures. Together with Adidas, this unique collaboration takes you on a path toward cultivating your best self,” Adidas said on its website. “Give your practice and the planet equal priority in distraction-free designs made from Parley Ocean Plastic, upcycled from plastic waste intercepted from beaches and coastal communities before it reaches the ocean.”

Designed for meditation, yoga and running, Adidas x Wanderlust combines functionality and wellness in its garments and footwear. The collection, which retails from $35 to $180 and is available from sizes x-small to large on Adidas.com, features key garments like crop tops, tank tops and yoga tights in blue, white and gray hues. The collection’s clothes, which are made with recycled polyester, are designed for optimal compression and free range of movement. For running, the collection also offers the Ultraboost X Shoes by Adidas, a high performance athletic sneaker with a breathable Primeknit upper and a Continental strechweb outsole for optimal surface grip.

In addition to the collection, Adidas and Wanderlust are inviting consumers to a series of 108 curated wellness events across the globe. At each daily event, consumers can take part in a mindful triathlon that involves running, yoga, meditation and shopping activities for their wellness needs. The series of events, which will begin on April 14 in San Diego, California, is to bring together consumers to celebrate health, wellness and performance products in a collaborative environment.

The retailer is working with Parley for the Oceans to minimize ocean pollution and utilize recycled ocean plastic into high performance clothing and footwear products. Both parties are working to fortify Parley for the Oceans’ A.I.R. Strategy, which involves more virgin plastic in supply chains, prohibit plastic from entering the world’s oceans and drive eco-innovation around materials and future products.
