Bangladesh is planning to build its largest ready-made garment (RMG) industrial park in Gazaria, an area of the Munshiganj district in the country’s capital of Dhaka within the next three years. The new park will cost an estimated $2.3 billion.
Commerce Minister, Tofail Ahmed made the announcement after a meeting with the representatives of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the president of the Orient International Holding Company, Tang Xiaojie, held at his office on Tuesday, the Dhaka Tribune reported.
Tofail said a Memorandum of Understanding between the BGMEA and the Orient International Holding Company will be signed shortly to get the project started.
“The Industrial Park will be able to employ over 2.5 lakh workers while the country will be able to export $4bn products,” the Dhaka Tribune reported Tofail as saying.
Senior Commerce Secretary, Hedayet Ullah Al Mamoon and BGMEA President, Atiqul Islam, and other RMG manufacturers also attended the meeting.
