COS To Open First US Store In Manhattan Next Spring

A Collection of Style (COS) store will make its debut US appearance in New York at 129 Spring Street, next Spring.

COS, a high-fashion smaller unit of Swedish colossus H & M, will occupy 4,500 square feet at its new SoHo location.

Other Manhattan locations are also under consideration by COS and plans are afoot for COS to expand into additional US markets, including Chicago and California.

Blogs, Facebook comments and Tweets from fashionistas — fashion-conscious consumers of fashionable apparel — as reported from various Internet sources, said the COS opening is being eagerly awaited.

Currently, COS operates 80 retail outlets internationally; its parent, H & M, runs more than 3,000 stores worldwide.

In a press release from COS, company CEO Marie Honda said, “We are all looking forward to the opening. New York City is a vibrant and exciting city and we feel SoHo will be the ideal setting for our first store.”

Late this summer the New York Daily News reported that COS parent H & M plans to open a gigantic store of 63,000 feet in Manhattan’s Herald Center in late 2014.  Every collection of the H & M brand will be offered at the H & M location at 1293 Broadway at 34th street.

COS is not only planning to expand into US markets, the firm is also increasing its retail presence in Switzerland, Singapore, Turkey and elsewhere.

Last year COS opened stores in Beijing and Taipei. The firm also opened a second store in Hong Kong.  In 2013, COS opened two outlets in Tianjin, China and a store in Dubai.

These ambitious worldwide expansions by COS and its parent H & M reflect the ongoing trend in which the world is turning into a global marketplace with everybody’s goods soon to be available almost everywhere.
