GT Korea Tradeshow Comeback to Boost South Korea’s Presence in International Sewing Market

The re-introduction of GT Korea, a garment machinery and textile industry trade show, may boost South Korea’s presence as a global sewing powerhouse.

Organized by the Korea Sewing Machinery Industrial Association (KOSMIA), South Korea-based private exhibition organizer SeoulMESSE International Ltd., sewing industry magazine Monthly Bobbin Journal and sales agency JES MEDIA, INC., GT Korea 2018 (Korea International Garment Machinery and Textile Industry Fair), will be held at KINTEX (the Korean International Exhibition Center) in Ilsan, Gyeonggi from Nov. 14 to Nov. 16 next year.

Even though South Korea stands as one of the top sewing nations worldwide, it hasn’t had the opportunity to host a specialized exhibition at a global scale, due to a recession in the domestic market. According to a recent Monthly Bobbin Journal survey, more than 90 percent of sewing industry companies felt it was important to hold a South Korean exhibition for garment machinery and textiles.

KOSMIA, the former organizer of SIMEX (Seoul International Sewing Machinery Exhibition) and GT Korea 2018’s other organizers were prompted to re-introduce and provide a new title for GT Korea—which hasn’t been held since SIMEX in 2005—to revitalize South Korea’s relevance in the international sewing market, while providing global companies with a robust trade show, where they’ll find new developments and innovations in the space. The trade show will take place in 2018, which won’t conflict with ITMA, one of the world’s largest exhibitions related to textile and garment technology, the next iteration of which will take place in Barcelona in 2019.

At GT Korea 2018, 400 booths and 120 companies will showcase innovations in four exhibition categories—garment machinery & parts, textile machinery & parts, fabric and technical textiles & non-woven. The trade show will serve as a key hub for companies from sewing and textile industry dominant nations, including China, Indonesia, Taiwan and Vietnam. At the show, attendees and exhibitors will have the opportunity to develop new markets, engage with new partners and expand customer segments in a cutting-edge environment.

“We will focus our efforts on attracting leading overseas buyers and will do our best to help exhibitors achieve satisfactory overseas marketing effects,” said a GT Korea 2018 representative. “In addition, the exhibition is expected to play a role as a marketing platform to lead the changing market to higher value added-business such as the smart fiber, technical textile market.”
