In March of this year Lululemon Athletica faced the problem of their peek-a-boo line of black Luon yoga pants, which revealed too much of the wearer.
The pants were recalled, with a potential cost to the Canada-based company of up to $20 million in sales.
Now comes new complaints about the recently reengineered and re-manufactured pants, which were supposed to be more discreet and protective of the wearer’s modesty.
According to consumer complaints posted on the Lululemon Facebook page and the company’s website, however, the pants are still see-through.
But there’s more — consumers also claim that the pants start pilling after just a handful of wearings and that the seams are unraveling and holes are opening up in the fabric.
At price points of a hundred dollars and up, even loyal Lululemon yoga pants buyers may be tempted to take their business elsewhere.
The new but still apparently troubled incarnation of Lululemon’s yoga pants were rolled out only after stricter product specs were imposed, tested well and the fabric showed sufficient opacity.
A statement from the company said it had heard only a “very small number” of complaints, and repeated its credo that quality is of the utmost importance to the firm.
Meanwhile, Lululemon continues its quest for a new CEO as current topper Christine Day is scheduled to depart.
Just recently Lululemon hired a former Kmart executive as their chief product officer.
Lululemon’s alleged quality issues may be resolved by the firm’s new product overseer, but if problems persist and proliferate there could be a substantial negative impact on share price and bottom line. Sales in 2012 hit a healthy $1.4 billion.
