Mount Vernon FR Introduces Softer, Flame Resistant Denim

Mount Vernon FR, a flame resistant fabric manufacturer, is expanding its selection of flame resistant (FR) denim fabrics with Phoenix TC denim, a new denim made from Tencel and cotton designed to improve the softness and comfort of FR jeans without compromising durability.

Bulwark, the North American market leader in durable flame resistant protective garments, will be using Phoenix TC denim in its upcoming denim jeans as well.

The new fabric is certified under NFPA 2112 standards on flame resistant garments and adheres to ASTM F1506, supplying basic protection levels for FR work-wear. The company chose Tencel for its strength and ability to make durable denim feel lighter than its true weight.

A survey of 400 environmental health and safety professionals conducted by Mount Vernon FR and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) found that 91 percent of the respondents rated comfort and durability as a very important factor when purchasing FR fabrics.

Robert Grimes, Bulwark managing director, said, “We are committed to designing, developing and distributing the best FR garments, without compromise. Phoenix TC denim adds a greater level of comfort to the durability and protection that are expected in our FR denim jeans.” He added, “Bulwark garments made with Phoenix TC denim will be a great option for our electric utility and oil and gas customers, and they will provide real solutions to some of the challenges being faced by safety professionals.”
