Sears Holdings announced Wednesday it cut 115 corporate jobs, including 100 at its Hoffman Estates headquarters near Chicago, to reduce costs. An additional 15 positions of “corporate support” were slashed from locations around the country, according to Crain’s.
The cuts, effective immediately, represent a mix of positions in various departments across the organization, including tools and appliances, and the legal department, Crain’s reported. Other departments reduced their budgets and eliminated open jobs.
In an emailed statement, Sears spokesman Howard Riefs said the decisions are a necessary part of the company’s efforts to transform the company and return it to profitability. Employees affected by the cuts will receive severance and outplacement service.
