Target to Close 11 Stores in Early 2015

Target announced Tuesday plans to close 11 locations across the U.S. as of Feb. 1 2015. The stores are located in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota and Texas.

The company said it based its decision on which stores to close on the “long-term financial performance” of particular locations. All eligible employees are being offered the option to transfer to other Target stores. Employees who choose not to transfer will be offered a separation package.

During the first half of the year Target closed eight stores, however, it opened another 10 during the same period. There are currently 1,934 Target stores in the U.S. and another 133 in Canada.
