Magic Tradeshow Heads to Japan

Event organizer UBM has been busy.

On Tuesday, the Magic Marketplace producer announced the launch of IFF Magic Japan, a new joint venture with Japan’s longest-running biannual trade show, JFW-International Fashion Fair.

The first edition is slated to take place Apr. 26-28, 2017, at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center during Japan Fashion Week. According to a press release, the show floor will be laid out in easy to navigate “fashion neighborhoods” intended to maximize the experience for both retailers and exhibitors.

“Fashion is a truly global industry and we are thrilled for Magic’s upcoming expansion into the Japan market in partnership with JFW International Fashion Fair and UBM Japan,” Chris DeMoulin, managing director, fashion, UBM Americas, said Tuesday. “Our combined expertise will not only help IFF Magic Japan evolve quickly to meet the dynamic needs of the Japanese market, but will provide a new platform for UBM Fashion’s global customer base to find new business partners and brands in Japan as well.”

Last Friday, UBM revealed its acquisition of Business Journal Inc. (BJI), the producer of such U.S. events as AccessoriesTheShow, Edit, Fame, Moda, Mrket and Stitch, for $69 million in cash.

With the launch of IFF Magic Japan, UBM has now expanded its trade show portfolio to include the Asian market. Not only will the new show serve to showcase Japanese fashion brands and designers, it will also provide ample opportunity for international brands and suppliers to access the country’s lucrative market.
