Uniqlo Set to Open Chicago Flagship

Toyko-based retailer Uniqlo, a division of Fast Retailing, announced it will open its first flagship in the Midwest on Chicago’s famous Magnificent Mile in the fall of 2015.

The 60,000-square-foot store–formerly a Filene’s Basement–will stand alongside Topshop and H&M in the heart of Chicago’s downtown. This will be the company’s second largest location in the U.S., after its flagship in New York City. According to Uniqlo, the Chicago store will contain all or most of the products sold at the New York City location.

Uniqlo U.S. CEO Larry Meyer, said, “Chicago is a global city that’s home to some of the finest cultural and sports institutions in the world, and we are [pleased] to join the city’s rich landscape.” He added, “We look forward to bringing our innovative, high-quality apparel, world-class customer service and modern, bright store aesthetic to the people of Chicago.”

Uniqlo currently operates 21 stores in the U.S. and it will debut six more stores on Aug. 29, one being a major flagship in Boston, with others located in Philadelphia and the Los Angeles area. In total, the company plans to open 18 new locations by the end of this year.
