According to data released today by the US Office of Textiles and Apparel, US imports of textile and apparel products fell slightly during the month of August, though they maintained a marginal, year-on-year growth.
US textile and apparel imports totaled USD101 billion in the year-to-date ending August 31, an increase of 0.71% over the same period in 2011. The country imported USD9.8 billion worth of apparel and textiles during the month of August, a year-on-year decrease of approximately 7% from last year’s high of USD10.4 billion.
August’s import figures also represented a 2% decrease from July’s total imports of USD10 billion.
Total apparel imports fell roughly 2% month-on-month from USD7.8 billion to USD7.7 billion, whereas the import of non-apparel items fell 3% from USD2.19 billion in July to USD2.15 billion in August.
