Vietnam exported $7.5 billion worth of shoes in 2012, up 10.6% from 2012, according to the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association. As in 2011, the major buyers on Vietnamese-made footwear were in the EU, the US, and in Japan.
The industry has set a target of $8 billion worth of footwear exports in 2013, projecting its largest growth in Japan (30%), followed by a 20% growth in the US, a 6% growth in the EU, and expanded business in Eastern Europe and Australia.
