Intertek, a leader in quality and testing certification, opened a textiles and apparel testing laboratory in Battaramulla, Sri Lanka.

The company announced last week that it would open the new lab to serve retailers, brands and manufacturers in the adult apparel, children’s apparel, fashion accessories and household textiles categories.

Calvin Yam, the global business line leader for softlines at Intertek, said, “The apparel industry in Sri Lanka is a major contributor to the country’s economy, representing nearly 40% of total exports.” He added, “Because Intertek has long-standing relationships with many of the leading global brands and retailers who source and manufacture apparel in Sri Lanka, the location is ideal for expansion of our textile and apparel testing capabilities.”

Intertek specializes in helping brands and manufacturers make sure their products meet safety, regulatory, quality and performance standards and the new lab brings the company’s total testing labs to forty-seven across North and South America, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

The Sri Lanka lab will offer up-to-date equipment for physical and analytical testing and company experts will provide information on global regulations and trends affecting the apparel industry.
