PVH Corp. Pledges to UN Global Compact and CEO Water Mandate

PVH Corp. is expanding its humanitarian and sustainability efforts.

The apparel company signed onto the UN Global Compact, which is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. Along with 9,000 other corporate members, PVH joined the movement for a more ethical and environmentally-friendly apparel industry. PVH and its Tommy Hilfiger business also signed the CEO Water Mandate, which will mobilize business leaders to improve clean water accessibility.

“We recognize both the opportunity and the responsibility for business to take a lead role in addressing pressing global issues,” PVH chairman and CEO Emanuel Chirico said.  He added, “We believe that by partnering with the United Nations through our commitment to the UN Global Compact, CEO Water Mandate and Women’s Empowerment Principles, we can better drive progress in the areas that matter most to our business, our industry and the world more broadly.”

Earlier this year, in addition to signing the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles, PVH initiated an enhanced global corporate responsibility strategy. The document featured 10 commitments across three focus areas, including empowering people, preserving the environment and supporting communities. PVH’s global CR strategy fortifies 14 of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which span compliance issues regarding building safety, inclusion and diversity, labor, chemical management and greenhouse gases.

While water accessibility remains a major issue for the apparel industry, PVH and Tommy Hilfiger are working with other organizations to remedy this environmental issue. Tommy Hilfiger recently signed a multi-year partnership with WWF International and the brand will also continue its work with the CEO Water Mandate to preserve the Earth’s water resources.

PVH has also accomplished many other sustainability milestones in 2016. This year marked the 25th anniversary of A Shared Commitment, PVH’s business code of conduct for sustainable practices in the apparel industry. The company also achieved FLA re-accreditation of its CR program and was recognized for its fair labor standards.
