J.C. Penney and Bombfell Launch Subscription Box Service for Big & Tall Shoppers

J.C. Penney is answering the call for more diverse sizing with its new, personalized subscription box service for Big & Tall male consumers.

The retailer is collaborating with Bombfell—a personalized men’s clothing company —to launch the new service, J.C. Penney + Bombfell. With the subscription box service, Big & Tall consumers can receive curated looks from J.C. Penney’s selection of Big & Tall brands to transition them from work, to weekend and other lifestyle activities.

Consumers can sign up for J.C. Penney + Bombfell on J.C. Penney’s website with a quick questionnaire, where they disclose details about their individual style preferences, their height and weight, apparel sizes and other body measurements.

From there, consumers can request which styles they would like from J.C. Penney’s wide range of Big & Tall skus, or can designate whether they would like a surprise assortment, and schedule their subscription box delivery. A stylist then handpicks five pieces from J.C. Penney’s Big & Tall brands and sends the consumer a preview email—where they can change or cancel any styles they don’t like. If J.C. Penney does not hear from the consumer, J.C. Penney will ship the subscription box order after two days. Once the consumer receives the order within two to 10 business days, they have 7 days to try on their clothing and footwear, pay for the items they like and return the rest.

J.C. Penney and Bombfell created the service to make the Big & Tall male consumer’s purchasing journey more seamless—which can often be costly and time-consuming due to limited options. Cost-savings benefits of the service include free shipping both ways, and the consumer can apply the $20 styling fee to any items they decide to keep. Shoppers of the service currently don’t have the option to return any items at J.C. Penney store locations—if they need to return an item, they can only do so by dropping their items off at their nearby FedEx location to ship back to the retailer. J.C. Penney didn’t provide comment on whether they will enable buy online and pick up in store options for their J.C. Penney + Bombfell subscription box consumers in the future.

With an average price point of $39 per apparel, footwear or accessories item, the subscription box offers fashion at affordable prices.
