Neiman Marcus Group has scooped up a piece of prime New York City real estate. The Dallas, Texas-based company, owner of Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Last Call stores, announced Thursday plans to open a flagship Neiman Marcus store on the city’s flourishing west side at Hudson Yards—the intended future home for New York Fashion Week. The 250,000-square-foot, three-level store is scheduled to open in 2018 and offer New Yorkers Neiman Marcus’ signature mix of fashion and luxury brands.
The store’s design will stay in line with the luxurious look of the 28-acre Hudson Yard complex, which once completed, will include 17 million square feet of commercial and residential space, a public school and a 175-room luxury hotel. Customers will have multiple access points to the store throughout the complex, as well as sweeping views over the center’s public plaza.
Karen Katz, president and chief executive officer of Neiman Marcus Group, said, “Neiman Marcus Group is well-known to New York and New Yorkers through our landmark Bergdorf Goodman store—a beloved and revered New York institution at the corner of 5th and 58th, and we are excited to establish a flagship NM store in one of the world’s premier shopping destinations. We look forward to serving New Yorkers and visitors to New York with legendary Neiman Marcus style.”
The company also announced a multi-million dollar comprehensive modernization of Fifth Avenue stalwart, Bergdorf Goodman. The five-year plan, called “BG 20/20,” entails new space dedicated to designer and luxury women’s sportswear, and the creation of “labs” to showcase the work of emerging designers. The renovation is scheduled for completion in 2020.
