Athletes and adventure seekers now have a new way to keep cool when their activities take them to warmer climes—performance fabric manufacturer Polartec launched its first cooling platform, dubbed Delta.
The company debuted its Delta permanent mechanical wicking fabric at the opening of the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, Utah Thursday.
Interestingly, car radiators served as the design inspiration for Delta, Polartec said. The new fabric is made of an optimal base layer that has wicking capabilities, less skin cling, regulates drying and still manages to stay breathable without any chemical treatments.
“Polartec’s Delta sits in the sweet spot between cotton and polyester, shifting what it means to perform in warm weather,” the company said in a statement.
Polartec designed Delta to “maximize the effectiveness of the body’s natural sweat response.” The fabric holds sweat next to the skin, similar to the way the body would when it’s working to cool itself, but still dries quickly and controls odor, according to Polartec.
“With Delta, Polartec is now a four-season brand,” the company’s senior vice president of operations Doug Kelliher, said. “Delta makes working out, running or doing anything in a warm climate in a wet cotton T-shirt a thing of the past. The fabric helps athletes stay in that ‘just right’ zone where they can maximize their performance without overheating.”
