The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in collaboration with Swarovski awarded several designers and industry influencers, including Marc Jacobs and Beyoncé, for their extensive efforts in America’s fashion sphere. Comedian and television producer Joel McHale hosted the event.
“The CFDA Fashion Awards are about celebrating creativity, innovation and achievement in the industry, but also about bringing our fashion family together,” CFDA chair Diane von Furstenberg said.
Womenswear Designer of the Year, presented by Claire Danes, was awarded to Marc Jacobs. Alexander Skarsgard presented the Menswear Designer of the Year award to Thom Browne. Mansur Gavriel’s Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel won the Accessory Designer of the Year honor, presented by Broad City’s Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson.
Actor Ansel Elgort and supermodel Karlie Kloss presented the three emerging talent Swarovski Awards: Brandon Maxwell for Womenswear; Alex, Matthew and Samantha Orley were awarded the Menswear award for Orley; the accessories nod went to Paul Andrew for his luxury footwear collection.
Other CFDA industry honors included the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, the Founder’s Award, the Media Award and the International Award.
Norma Kamali was presented the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award by Michael Kors. The Founder’s Award in honor of American fashion maven Eleanor Lambert was presented to Donna Karan by Calvin Klein. The Business of Fashion’s CEO and Editor-in-Chief Imran Amed was presented the Media Award in honor of fashion journalist Eugenia Sheppard by Alexa Chung. Gucci’s Alessandro Michele won the International Award, presented by Anna Wintour.
To top the night off, von Furstenberg presented Beyoncé with the Fashion Icon award in a surprise moment on stage.
