Trendy British retailer Topshop has announced a deal with Zalando, one of Europe’s largest ecommerce clothing stores and a major Asos competitor, to sell its apparel in select European countries starting September 2014.
Zalando, which carries brands like Ted Baker and River Island, will offer a large assortment of Topshop clothing, footwear and accessories on its site, as well as styles from Topshop’s popular men’s label, Topman. Collections will be updated every two weeks and customers will enjoy free delivery and returns.
Topshop and Topman products will not be available on Zalando’s U.K. site.
Germany, France and the Netherlands are key European markets for the Brit brand, and the deal is expected to help further Topshop’s international footprint. Its parent company, Arcadia Group, has set goals to expand overseas into Europe, China and the U.S., with hopes of store openings in Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Egypt, New Zealand and Panama.
In November, the group will open a 40,000-square-foot flagship store in uptown Manhattan–Topshop’s second-largest store after its London flagship.
Likewise, the partnership is poised to keep Zalando on the radar of Topshop-loving fashionistas. Zalando’s co-founder David Schneider described Topshop and Zalando as a “perfect match.” He added, “Through working with brands as trend-driven as Topshop and Topman, Zalando gains momentum as the leading online fashion destination providing the right styles for our fashion-conscious customers in Europe.”
To stir up buzz for the launch, Zalando has enlisted 12 international bloggers from different fashion hubs in Europe to showcase the variety of trends, culture, and lifestyle expressed in Topshop’s and Topman’s Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 collections.
