Arcadia Group, owner of British fashion labels Topshop and Miss Selfridge, has tapped ShangPin.com to be its first online partner in China. Topshop and Miss Selfridge will launch on ShangPin in September, opening up the lines’ trendy women’s apparel and accessories to the high-end ecommerce site’s five million customers.
Launched in 2010, ShangPin is the first full-price fashion retailer in China to offer current season threads to consumers in Mainland China. The company plans to deliver the British labels to 400 cities across China.
ShangPin CEO David Zhao noted that Arcadia Group’s brand portfolio is “perfectly suited” to ShangPin’s customer base. “China’s new fashion consumers are in their 20s-30s and are moving away from big logos to being fashion forward and wanting to express their individuality through mixing and matching styles and brands,” Zhao said, adding that he is confident that Topshop and Miss Selfridges will do well in the country.
Sir Phillip Green, Arcadia Group CEO, said, “We decided to partner with ShangPin in China because they demonstrated to us their capacity to operate brands and understand marketing and brand building.” He added, “As we continue to grow our global expansion, this will be a step forward using the power of China’s online reach and therefore selling into one of the world’s most exciting consumer markets.”
Topshop’s partnership with ShangPin is the latest headline in the company’s ongoing global expansion. Topshop recently partnered with Zalando, a European ecommerce retailer, to expand its footprint throughout Europe.
