Bralettes and bodysuits. Those are the two silhouettes with which the innerwear category is most enamored right now. And it’s easy to see why—they’ve got the cash registers ringing. The irony, of course, is that neither is meant to be hidden. Each is designed to peek out from under other layers or, in some cases, to be highlighted on their own. Bralettes are particularly engaging because they provide consumers with the comfort they adore from their athletic wear. With no cups, the bralette is the kissing cousin of the sports bra—and each style borrows fabrications and techniques from the other. While blush tones and black will always be at the heart of the intimates market, the industry is embracing vivid colors like burgundy and royal blue. Similarly, designers are loving fabrications ranging from demure mesh and microfiber to bold lace and sumptuous velvets.
