Jack Ma, owner founder of Chinese e-commerce juggernaut Alibaba, was the latest in a long list of business leaders, luminaries and politicos to meet with the President-elect. During Monday’s meeting, the two reportedly discussed a plan to create a million new jobs in the U.S. through small businesses selling to China and the rest of Asia. However, neither side offered specificity on the types of jobs or timing. Further, Ma’s commitment to boosting the sale of goods from U.S. companies in China predates any discussions with the Trump team. And the relationship between the U.S. government and Alibaba has been rocky, with concerns about counterfeiting on its sites and its financial reporting.
