Downlite is expanding its Responsible Down Standard (RDS) certified supply chain to other continents.
The U.S.-based down and feather processor and supplier announced Wednesday that it has invested significant resources in its RDS supply chain in Asia and Europe. RDS certification promotes down supply chain traceability, assuring companies that the down used in their products is derived from ducks and geese that were treated humanely.
Chad Altbaier, Downlite vice president, said supply chain custody, responsible sourcing and traceability are key in apparel markets. Consumers are increasingly demanding that companies stay transparent about their supply chain processes and sustainability initiatives.
“Significant demand for our RDS-certified down in both the outdoor and home furnishings market provoked us to expand our RDS-certified supply chain in Europe and Asia,” Altbaier said. “This increased supply will assure our partners that they will have the option of manufacturing products made with 100 percent RDS-certified down.”
Downlite recently developed more RDS-certified down partnerships with other companies, including Berghaus and Nemo Equipment. Altbaier also said that more outdoor brands will team up with the program for Fall/Winter 2017 and those will be announced later this year.
