UK Retailers Raise the Consumer Delivery Bar

Two U.K. clothing chains are stepping up their consumer delivery services.

New Look, in collaboration with delivery company DPD, just debuted a one-hour delivery service for its consumers, Retail Gazette reported. Plus, trendy e-tailer Pretty Little Thing has paired up with London-based parcel hub Doddle to bring its consumers an order-first, pickup-next-day delivery service.

“New Look is constantly looking at ways to improve our customers’ online journey,” said Danny Barrasso, New Look UK managing director. “By working with DPD and launching ‘Precise’ our customers can now select their own one-hour timeslot for next-day delivery—making it seamless, efficient and flexible.”

As the second company to utilize DPD’s postal options, New Look added the one-hour delivery service to be more accommodating to consumers’ on-the-go lifestyles. The retailer’s customers may set a custom hour between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. within a week after their purchase for daytime delivery. After ordering items online, consumers will be notified via text or email of their special delivery window.

Pretty Little Thing, meanwhile, is working with a U.K.-based parcel service to establish a more seamless experience for its consumers. With Doddle, Pretty Little Thing consumers have the choice to select the next day click-and-collect delivery service. Up until 10 p.m. the night before, consumers may order online and choose any of Doddle’s 50 stores from which to pick up their purchases the following day. In addition to in-person pick up, consumers may also return Pretty Little Thing items free of charge at any Doddle location.

“By working with Doddle we can offer our customers greater flexibility and convenience for delivery and returns,” Pretty Little Thing distribution manager Ben Hulme said. “Doddle’s stores are handy for our customer base at train stations and universities and the extended trading hours complement our customers’ lifestyles rather than disrupt them.”
