Aden + Anais and Woolmark Team to Create Pure Merino Muslin Collection

When it comes to sustainability, there is no way forward without a plan. Attend our in-person “Sustainability Summit: Road to 2030” June 1 in NYC. Learn from the industry’s best and brightest, and network to create those necessary partnerships!

Popular infant bedding, swaddle and accessories company Aden + Anais introduced Tuesday its new pure Australian Merino wool muslin fabric. The company teamed up with The Woolmark Company to combine its signature cotton muslin weaves with Australian Merino wool to create the luxurious-feeling Merino muslin fabrication.

As a naturally breathable material, both companies said that Merino wool makes an efficient temperature regulator, keeping babies and toddlers comfortable throughout the seasons. The fabric absorbs moisture vapor near the skin to keep them feeling dry and less clammy. The machine washable collection is also naturally fire-resistant and has a protective outer layer to help prevent dirt and stains from sticking.

The Woolmark Company has made inroads to educate parents about the versatility of Australian Merino wool through its “Mothers and babies” program. The Woolmark Company chief strategy and marketing officer Rob Langtry said, “Our global Mothers and Babies program works in three main areas: funding scientific research into Merino wool’s health benefits, innovative product development and creating awareness of the fiber’s benefits. The partnership and product development with Aden + Anais further illustrates that demand for Australian Merino wool is growing in the babywear market.”

The Aden + Anais Pure Merino Muslin collection is Woolmark Nurture-certified, meaning it was created under certain restrictions to ensure safety involving the health and well-being of infants and toddlers. The diameter of the fabric used in the items has an upper limit specific to the product category, so it is always comfortable for babies’ sensitive skin.

Aden + Anais co-founder and CEO Raegan Moya-Jones said, “Over the years, we’ve grown to be recognized as the true innovators of muslin in the marketplace and we wanted to explore other fibers that would work with our signature muslin weave. Merino wool just seemed like the perfect fit—it’s natural, breathable, and one of the loveliest fabrics I’ve ever felt.”

The collection is available now at Aden + Anais’ retail partners and on the brand’s website. Products include a swaddling blanket, sleeping bag, a “Dream” blanket and a security blanket, offered in three hand-dyed ombré colorways. Prices range from $75 to $400.
