Ag Market Network to Host Cotton Market Teleconference

PRESS RELEASE: The Ag Market Network will host a free cotton market teleconference on Monday, September 14 at 7:30am CDT, when a distinguished panel of cotton experts will discuss global cotton production, crop conditions, domestic demand, exports, and government policy.

Panelists will include O.A. Cleveland, professor emeritus, Mississippi State University, H.W. “Kip” Butts, senior cotton analyst, Informa Economics, Jarral Neeper, president, Calcot, Ltd., Dr John Robinson, Professor and Extension Specialist/Cotton Marketing, and Patrick McClatchy, executive director, Ag Market Network.

After the panel discussion, Robert Antoshak, Managing Director of Olah Inc., will interview two veteran cotton executives with Cotton Incorporated, Kim Kitchings, Vice President of the Corporate Strategy and Program Metrics Division, and Kater Hake, Vice President of Agricultural and Environmental Research, about the many challenges facing cotton today.

Since its founding in 1970, Cotton Incorporated has utilized a “push/pull” marketing strategy to enhance the usage of cotton. The objective was to “push” cotton textile innovations into the market through product and process development, while building consumer demand, or a “pull,” through advertising and promotion.

Although Cotton Incorporated is widely recognized as a leader in cotton promotion, the organization is also an innovator in technical research and development.

“These interviews will be a chance for companies in the global textile supply chain to learn more about Cotton Incorporated and its efforts to expand the market for cotton around the world, Antoshak said. “In addition to exploring Cotton Incorporated’s extensive cotton marketing efforts, the program will provide an opportunity for apparel sourcing executives throughout the industry to learn more about Cotton Incorporated’s vast research and technical programs.”

Pat McClatchy, executive director of the Ag Market Network, added: “It is our intention not only to help outline the Cotton Incorporated’s various programs, but to illustrate the impact of its efforts on the entire cotton supply chain.”
