Applied DNA Sciences

Applied DNA Sciences Inc. is collaborating with home textiles manufacturer GHCL Ltd. and India’s Reliance Industries to launch CertainT verified recycled PET bedding products at New York Home Fashions week next month.

GHCL will use Applied DNA’s CertainT platform in connection with PET and recycled PET-blended bed sheets, pillowcases and shams sold in-store or online in the U.S. Reliance is collaborating with GHCL and Applied DNA as the preferred fiber-manufacturing partner to use the CertainT platform for authenticity of recycled PET in bed sheets, pillowcases and shams.

Recycled PET is the clear plastic best known for packaging bottled water and is the most widely recycled plastic in the world.

Reliance, considered the largest integrated producer of polyester fiber and yarn in the world, manufactures eco-friendly fibers Recron Green Gold and Recron Green Gold Dope-Dyed fibers and tow.

“Recron Green Gold fibers and tow demonstrate the lowest carbon footprint number and meet the most stringent environmental criteria for being a green fiber,” Hemant Sharma, sector head for polyester at Reliance, said. “The collaboration with Applied DNA and GHCL for making forensic science-based Recron Green Gold fiber further bolsters our thrust on quality and persuasion for highest standards.”

Manu Kapur, president and chief executive officer of GHCL Home Textiles, added, “We produce a wide range of synthetic yarns from polyester, viscose and other high-end yarns which now utilize the CertainT system for full traceability. The ability to source and buy CertainT yarns made from verified recycled PET fiber is a unique offering that GHCL can provide to customers globally.”

GHCL operates its home textiles facility in Vapi, India. The facility oversees the production process from spinning to weaving to finished processed fabric, which is then made into duvet sets, sheet sets and comforters. The plant boasts an annual production capacity of 36 million meters of finished fabric.

“CertainT does what no other system can do, We can tag every single fiber and verify them through a defined and secure supply chain through systematic sampling, testing and tracking,” said James Hayward, president and CEO of Applied DNA, a provider of molecular technologies that enable supply chain security, anti-counterfeiting and anti-theft technology, product genotyping and DNA mass production for diagnostics and therapeutics. “Momentum with retailers and manufacturers across a variety of textiles is growing. We are pleased to see the CertainT platform and trademark now making its way onto retail shelves this year, giving consumers what they want.”

The ActiveDough pillow line, which offers a new foam formula with the quick-response feel and superior support of latex foam, as well as the just-right cushion and contouring relief of memory foam.

“The ActiveDough pillows are unlike anything you’ve felt before,” said Sam Malouf, CEO of Malouf. “They have a fast response like latex, but contour to curves like memory foam. It’s an ideal middle ground feel between two favorite pillow technologies.”

The new pillows are available in Queen and King sizes and feature Malouf’s Zoned Technology design for ideal neck support, include a moisture-balancing Tencel cover, and come in five infusion options–lavender, chamomile, peppermint, bamboo charcoal and gel.

The lavender, chamomile and peppermint-infused pillows come with a spritzer bottle of essential oil spray for scent enhancement. These pillows also raise funds for a good cause. Every aromatherapy ActiveDough pillow purchase results in a $5 donation to the Malouf Foundation’s efforts to fight child sex trafficking and provide after care for survivors.

The new duvet set is made of soft, silky fabric ideal for sensitive skin and features Malouf’s patent-pending Duv8t fastening system. This exclusive connection system includes eight ties at the corners and sides for a secure fit and neat look. Woven comforters from Malouf feature eight duvet loops to enhance comfort and style.

“Rayon from bamboo sheets continue to be a top seller for their exceptional softness and advanced temperature regulation,” said Mike Douglas, vice president of sales for Malouf. “The new Rayon from Bamboo Duvet Set delivers the same softness and comfort with great style and the neat, clean look the Duv8t system offers. It solves the irritating problem of putting luxury linens on your bed, only to see them sag and gap around your comforter.”
