Zelan R2 Plus contains 30 percent renewably sourced, plant-based raw materials and is focused on delivering a high level of DWR for all material substrates. The company said work is under way in the development of other non-fluorinated offerings to provide additional stain release benefits. These renewably sourced finishes help brands in minimizing the environmental impact of the textile supply chain, Chemours said.
Zelan R2 Plus complements Zelan R3, the chemistry for Teflon EcoElite, a renewably sourced finish that provides high DWR performance and is up to three times more durable than existing non-fluorinated repellents, according to Chemours. Zelan R3 is Bluesign approved and is an approved input finishing chemical for Global Organic Textile Standard certified textile products. Zelan R3 also contains 60 percent renewably sourced, plant-based raw materials.
Chemours noted that Zelan R3 is commercially run at over 200 mills in more than 30 countries, with 24 million consumer products featuring the Teflon EcoElite brand. This runs from high-end ski wear to every day outerwear. Huntsman Textile Effects is the global distributor for all Zelan products.
“Zelan R3 has quickly established itself as the benchmark non-fluorinated technology in the market today. Its outstanding performance and sustainability credentials have earned wide acceptance by brands and retailers the world over,” Lee Howarth, global marketing manager for finishing at Huntsman Textile Effects, said. “We are very excited to again partner with Chemours on the introduction of Zelan R2 Plus, which we strongly believe will further strengthen our position as industry leaders in the transition to non-fluorinated technologies.”

The Bluesign system is aimed at uniting the entire textile supply chain to jointly reduce its impact on people and the environment. The Input Stream Management ensures that Bluesign approved chemical products and raw materials are used in all steps of the manufacturing process. Substances posing risks to people and the environment are eliminated, while on-site inspections verify the proper application of such chemical products and raw materials in controlled processes and ensure the responsible use of resources.
