Cotton Incorporated, the research and promotion company for U.S. cotton producers and importers, launched a new campaign on July 4 called “The United of America.”

It is intended to celebrate the nation’s birthday with a reminder of the common thread that binds all its citizens: that we are more alike than we are different. The video message will be distributed across Cotton Incorporated social media channels and will live on at theunitedofamerica.com web site.

Additional supporting materials and content will launch later in the month.

The video shows newborns swaddled in cotton receiving blankets used by U.S. hospitals. It is a visual metaphor conveying that Americans, regardless of gender or color, are born equal, including the cotton blanket that comforts their first moments in the world. Medline, an Illinois-based manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies and pioneer of the iconic, striped cotton receiving blankets featured in the video, distributes to hospitals across the county.

“Our country’s greatest strength is the diversity of its people,” said Jill Orsini, advertising director for Cotton Incorporated. “Although we may disagree with each other from time to time, we are bound together by common threads, starting with the cotton blanket used to wrap newborns in U.S. hospitals.”

“We’re often quick to forget that then despite all our differences – race, creed or color, rich or poor, we’re all the same—simply proud Americans.” Orsini added. “On this Fourth of July, we wanted to share this message of unity and comfort and invite all those who agree that we’re better together than divided to show that they are part of #TheUnitedofAmerica.”
