Pertex Introduces Abrasion-Resistant Technology

Fabric specialist Pertex introduced its abrasion-resistant CS10 technology this week, an innovation that it said will be used in several of the outdoor industry’s premier brands in Fall 2016.

According to the British company, fabrics made with this new technology use special yarns with diamond-shaped filaments, as opposed to normal circular ones. The filaments interlock to provide more than twice the abrasion resistance of standard fabrics.

In addition, CS10 also makes fabrics water resistant, while remaining soft and down-proof.

Founded in the ’70s by mountaineer Hamish Hamilton and Perserverance Mills Ltd. and bought in 2005 by Mitsui & Co. Ltd., the fabric specialist has a strong history of making lightweight but durable materials. Pertex said the new stuff will surely impress.

Multiple brands including Berghaus, Mammut, Montane, Peak Performance and Salewa have agreed to sell outdoor performance apparel that uses the new technology for next year’s fall/winter season. The news follows an announcement in September that the company would partner with the likes of Adidas, Bergans and Atomic this year.

This is not the first development from Pertex in 2015. In June, the company created Pertex Shield AP and Pertex Shield Plus.
