Global textile solutions provider Unifi Textiles Co. (UTSC) announced Tuesday that it is expanding its premium value-added product offering with the new SORBTEK staple fiber, which provides permanent moisture management via its proprietary Catch, Move, Release technology.
The new SORBTEK technology absorbs moisture, moves it away from the skin and releases it for quick evaporation, and because it is incorporated into the staple fiber, moisture-management remains permanently.
Garments made with the fiber will keep the wearer cool and dry, and the inherent soil release properties will protect against everyday stains like sweat or grass. According to the company, garments made with SORBTEK have a soft drape, enhanced color retention and wrinkle resistance, “making it easier to create garments with the comfort of cotton in conjunction with the functional advantages of polyester.”
Unifi president Ed Wickes said, “SORBTEK staple is an important part of UTSC’s commitment to providing customers with multiple options for value-added products.” He added, “Most staple offerings focus on just the hand, but SORBTEK staple combines a cotton-like touch with moisture management and soil release properties.”
The company said the SORBTEK staple can be used in knit and woven garments like T-shirts, pants, jackets, polos, sweaters and socks, and the fiber can also be used for heather colors. Unifi will feature the new staple at the Autumn 2014 Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics Show from Oct. 20-23.
