The launch is the latest contactless service offered by the retailer to expand its omnichannel options. The Charlotte-based department store earlier this year began offering contactless curbside pickup. Customers who place an order either on belk.com or on the mobile app and elect the service can pick up at the store within hours. Customers who opt for this service receive an additional 10 percent off their curbside pickup orders.
The new services at Belk are in line with what its competitors have been offering following the coronavirus outbreak earlier this year as they try to find ways to ease the customer shopping experience in the age of social distancing and public health safety concerns.
To qualify for same-day delivery, customers need to place an online order before 2 p.m. eastern, as well as select the option during check out. A Belk personal shopper will fill the order and deliver it directly to the customer’s door by 9 p.m. Orders placed after 2 p.m. with the same-day option selected will receive their order the following day. The new delivery option is available on select merchandise for $9.95 on orders totaling $49 and up, and for $14.95 for orders under $49. Items that qualify for the service will feature a same-day delivery icon.
“We’ve been steadily expanding our e-commerce options to ensure our customers can shop whenever, wherever and however it best fits their life,” Lisa Harper, Belk’s CEO, said. “Adding a same-day delivery option is one of the ways we are adapting our 133-year-old company to meet the needs of our modern customer, all while still providing the same quality and fashion that they rely on.”
Belk opened its first store in 1888. The retailer operates nearly 300 department stores in 16 Southeastern states, at belk.com and through its mobile app.
