Danish clothing and accessories company Bestseller has acquired M and M Direct Ltd., the UK-based online and mail order retailer that specializes in discounted fashion, sports apparel and footwear, for close to $237 million.
M and M Direct has dedicated ecommerce sites across Europe and sells in more than 20 additional countries worldwide. It carries brands like Diesel, Lacoste, Ugg and Adidas. Since 2007, it has been owned by global growth private equity firm TA Associates.
Bestseller’s communication director Mogens Werge, said, “We have worked with M and M for several years, and we have come to know the people within the company as passionate and hard-working people who have achieved many positive results lately.” He added, “We believe that M and M will continue to develop and become a leading company within its business and its markets.”
The two companies will remain separate units, however, Werge noted that Bestseller hopes to learn from M and M on areas like mobile sales. The acquisition will be finalized within eight weeks.
