JackThreads Returns With a New Plan for E-Commerce

JackThreads is back, three months after saying farewell.

The online menswear retailer, which closed its operations in May, relaunched its e-commerce site,, with a limited offering over the weekend.

“JackThreads is back in the hands of some of the original crew that made it special,” said a statement on the brand’s web site. “As we rebuild, we wanted to open our digital doors back up a bit early so you can join us on the journey. Please excuse our appearance as we renovate, and know that limited quantities of new gear and exclusive drops will be hitting the site every day.”

In February, the retailer cut its staff down to a skeleton crew and was in discussions to sell the company. The layoffs included much of the customer service staff and certain executives. After laying off most of its staff, the retailer called it quits completely on May 12, shutting down operations with a massive “Farewell Sale.”

On Monday, a click on the site’s Sale tab said: “Looking for a deal? We hear ya! We will be updating this area frequently as we continue to rebuild. Stay tuned!”

Formerly a part of Thrillist, JackThreads was launched in 2008 in Columbus, Ohio, as a flash sale site, offering deals on emerging labels. In 2015, JackThreads was spun off, and the two separate entities raised $54 million in funding, with funding for the e-commerce site led by Oak Investment Partners and SBNY.

The e-tailer then relaunched, pivoting from flash sales, and adding private label garments to the mix. About six months later, it launched TryOuts, which allowed customers to order products and pay only once they’d opted to keep them.
