Consumers are constantly glued to their smartphones and that means booming business for mobile-optimized retailers.
New data released by Branding Brand, a mobile commerce provider for the nation’s top-grossing retailers, indicated that revenue generated from smartphone orders in June 2014 totaled $15,628,076–a 110.2% from $7,435,662 in June 2013.
Likewise, the number of smartphone orders in June 2014 increased 84.3% to 170,055 from 92,255 the year prior, while online visits generated by smartphones grew 56.9% from 12,537,218 to 19,667,372.
In total, smartphones were responsible for 34.4% of total online visits, the report revealed, representing a market share increase of 43.4% from June 2013.
Chris Mason, Branding Brand co-founder and CEO said, “Our June 2014 report marks the sixth consecutive month this year where our actual data undoubtedly quantifies a retail mobile mind shift.” He added, “Remarkably, it’s consumers themselves who are rapidly speeding the pace of m-commerce dominance. With the seamless integration of smartphones and tablets into our daily lives, buyers have come to expect mobile-optimized shopping experiences that are streamlined, quick, and convenient.”
On the opposite end of the digital spectrum, visits from non-mobile applications, including desktop and laptop computers, decreased 19 percent from June 2013 to June 2014.
The Branding Brand Mobile Commerce Index utilizes a consistent sample of clients from apparel, health and beauty, and home goods industries. It serves as the largest collection of data on retail websites specifically optimized for consumer purchases via iPhone, Android, and other smartphones.
