Kmart is capitalizing on the growth of mobile commerce and making sure it’s online shoppers don’t miss out on anything this holiday season.
This discount retailer announced a slew of mobile upgrades just in time to simplify holiday shopping for the 22 percent of consumers who say they’ll be buying gifts online. The idea, as Kmart’s new hashtag claims, is that #ShoppingIsFunAgain.
With the new app, shoppers who opt in can get Bluelight Specials as real-time push notifications on their phones and purchase the kmart.com product right from the app. Mobile Coupons let shoppers load applicable coupons to their Shop Your Way rewards program account and they’ll automatically be applied at checkout, either through the app, online or in-store.
“Mobile continues to play an important role in the shopping mix. In fact, mobile’s share of our online sales has increased 100 percent year-over-year,” said Leena Munjal, senior vice president of customer experience and integrated retail at Sears Holdings. “We’ve added features and updates to our mobile app, making it easier than ever for our members to shop, earn points and get the best deals online, in-store or through their smartphones.”
The app offers up a “Free Friday Fix,” a coupon every Friday to redeem in store for a free gift with purchase. Members can also buy online and pick up in store for free or, with Pay in Store, they can reserve online and then pay for and collect their goods in the store. Kmart also lowered its free shipping minimum spend from $49 to $35 for online orders.
Kmart added a new Layaway & Go feature in the app too, which lets shoppers scan products from the app and add them to a layaway list without ever visiting the store. From now until Nov. 29, customers can even open layaway accounts online for just $0.01 down.
The new app is available for download at the Apple App Store and on Google Play, and Kmart members who download or upgrade the app will get $5 off in Shop Your Way points toward a purchase of $35 or more.
