Basketball has a legacy of colorful characters and now there are socks to match. Nike has released a range of basketball socks designed with its new Elite Digital Ink printing process, a proprietary system that creates socks as shockingly bright as some of the athletic behemoth’s footwear.
The new printing process enables designers to create high-definition graphics in a spectrum of vivid colors without the risk of image distortion or fading. The process also maintains the moisture-wicking, support and impact protection benefits of the sock.
The first edition of Nike Elite Digital Ink socks is a nod to the CMYK printing process and the four most popular ink colors used (cyan, magenta, yellow and black), exaggerated by a bold drip effect. The socks will be available in limited quantities on Nike.com beginning June 21.
Future editions will be tied to the release of footwear drops and to commemorate special occasions.
