Mother-daughter matching is back, and three titans of fashion are here to help moms and their mini-me’s find festive new looks for all their holiday photos and party-going needs this season.
Rent the Runway, children’s clothing startup Rockets of Awesome and iconic fashion house Diane von Furstenberg are teaming up to launch a holiday collection of women’s and girl’s apparel marrying DVF’s timeless luxury style and RoA’s sense of whimsy and expertise in outfitting kids with the sharing-economy rental model popularized through RTR.
Luxe faux fur, shimmering sequins and rich velvet punctuate the matching sets for mothers and daughters in the Rockets of Awesome x DVF collection, which the trio of fashion companies says is designed to celebrate “empowerment and self-expression.”
Augmenting the theme of female empowerment, a campaign highlighting the new holiday capsule features entrepreneur, wife of NBA star Chris Bosh, and community activist Adrienne Bosh with her daughter, Dylan; editor-in-chief of Women’s Health magazine Liz Plosser with her daughter, Lucy; Ashley Stark, creative director of carpet and fabric company Stark, with her daughter, Willa; and co-founder of accessories brand Dannijo Jodie Snyder-Morel, with her daughter Margaux.
The collection closely follows RTR’s expansion into the children’s category with RTR Kids, which supplements members’ existing monthly plans. RTR’s Unlimited plan ($159) allows customers to endlessly swap out up to four styles while Update ($89) lets members keep four pieces for four weeks at a time. Customers can also access pieces in the Rockets of Awesome x DVF collection through RTR’s Reserve option, which enables one-time, one-off rentals in four-day or eight-day timeframes, starting at $30.
