Top Amazon UK Exec Quits to Lead Digital-Photo Company Shutterfly

North, an Amazon employee since 2006, helped grow the online retailer’s British revenue to more than $9 billion in 2015. Now Shutterfly, a manufacturer and seller of photo prints and other personalized products, is hoping he can help boost its billion-dollar income.

“We are very excited to welcome Chris to the Shutterfly team. His outstanding track record at one of the most successful e-commerce companies in the world makes him an incredible asset to this organization,” stated Phil Marineau, interim CEO and chairman of the board of directors, who will continue to lead the company until North assumes his responsibilities.

“With Shutterfly’s dedication to customers, incredible team and track record of innovation, I believe the company is strongly positioned to grow and increase profitability in order to drive shareholder value,” offered North, whose resume includes senior leadership roles at Phaidon Press and HarperCollins Publishers, as well as time spent as a media and entertainment consultant at Booz Allen & Hamilton.

Shutterfly said North’s initial base salary would be $700,000 and that “a significant amount” of his compensation package will be directly tied to the performance of the company’s share price over time.

Amazon UK has yet to release a statement announcing North’s upcoming departure.
