Walmart Takes on Amazon Prime With Its Own $50 Unlimited Shipping

Join Sourcing Journal on March 13th HKT for Sourcing Summit Hong Kong for discussions on mending relationships between supply chain partners, remaking factories for smaller MOQs and faster turns, and creating resilience to survive the next inevitable crisis.

Walmart is set to test an Amazon Prime-like unlimited online shipping option starting this summer, and the $50 yearly fee could take a bite out of Prime.

For now, Walmart’s service will be by invitation only, and the company promises to deliver select products to it’s e-commerce customers in three days or less, Reuters reported.

Amazon launched its $99 yearly shipping service 10 years back and guaranteed two-day shipping, and since then the service has fueled the company’s growth. Walmart’s move, however, could cost Amazon some market share.

Walmart company spokesperson Ravi Jariwala told Reuters, “Depending on customer feedback we will see how the programme evolves.”
