The latest release from Sciessent has boosted its environmental credibility.

The Wakefield, Massachusetts-based provider of antimicrobial and anti-odor solutions announced Thursday that its fluorocarbon-free functional finish, Curb, has been named a Bluesign-approved product.

Curb, released earlier this year as an alternative to long-chain fluorocarbon-based treatments in durable water repellent (DWR) finishes, is the second of Sciessent’s technologies to be added to Bluesign’s approval list, the first being the odor-absorbing Lava.

“The creation of environmentally friendly, sustainable and responsible products is a core mission for Sciessent,” Paul Ford, chief executive officer at Sciessent, stated. “We are driven to minimize our environmental impact within the textile industry and help encourage sustainable practices in the future.”

Sciessent said Curb delivers the same water repellent performance as existing technologies, without the use of harmful substances. Garments treated with this technology cause liquid droplets to bead and roll off the surface of the fabric, while maintaining breathability and permeability to air and water vapor.

Curb is also compatible with Sciessent’s Agion Active XL and Lava XL, two technologies designed to self-regenerate between launderings that launched last October, as well as Lava.
